| Who will win the 2010 Football Word Cup in South Africa? | |
|
Kicking off on June 11th 2010 in Johannesburg, the 2010 World cup in South Africa sees 32 teams compete for title of World Champions. England haven't won a world cup for over 40 years, but surely 2010 will provide the best team they've had for decades, Spain have been widely tipped to excel in 2010, but with a European team never winning the World Cup outside Europe could this have an effect? In fact only 5 world cups have been won by a team from outside the host continent, with Brazil representing 4 of these wins; could this signal success from an African team like Cameroon or hosts South Africa, or Will Brazil take advantage of the hot climate and take victory again? ARGENTINA With star players such as Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero ready to set the world alight Argentina have to be in with a chance, but they made hard work of the qualifying stage, making it through on the final day ... has new coach Diego Maradona got what it take to take them to world cup final glory? BRAZIL With many of their great players of recent tournaments passing their peak, can the new stars of the Brazilian team, such as Kaka, Robinho and Pato match the success of legends like Ronaldo Romario and Ronaldinho? CAMEROON An African team has never won a world cup, next year represents arguably their best chance. Can the likes of Alexandre Song, Samuel Eto’o and Sebastien Bassong mix it with the best in 2010? COTE D’IVOIRE Most of their team play for European top flight teams, such as Chelsea’s Drogba and Bareclona’s Yaya Toure, will Cote D’Ivoire be boosted with the chance to win the first World Cup ever to be held on the African continent? ENGLAND Do England have what it takes to improve on their last standing in 2002 where they narrowly lost to Brazil in the Quarter finals? Would players such as Danny Mills and Trevor Sinclair of the 2002 squad make it in today’s star-studded team? FRANCE France needed a “hand of god” to get past Ireland so may seem to lack the calibre which saw them lift the world cup in 1998, but with players such as Thierry Henry, Lassana Diarra, Karim Benzema and Samir Nasri, they can’t be written off just yet! GERMANY Finishing 2nd and 3rd in the previous two world cups Germany definitely have the pedigree for success in June, do they have what it takes to go one step further than The European cup 2 years ago? ITALY Champions in 2006, but with a team of ageing stars such as Fabio Cannavaro and Mauro Camoranesi, will they be able to match the standard of the last world cup finals? NETHERLANDS With a mediocre history in the World Cup, The Netherlands have tended to perform better on a European Stage, now with the likes of Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar reaching their peak, do The Netherlands now have what it takes to perform on a truly international stage PORTUGAL without the managerial talents Luiz Felipe Scolari can Portugal still compete at a level which saw them reach 4th in 2006 and 2nd in the 2004 European Championship? With the game-changing skills of Christiano Ronaldo they have to be in with a chance! SERBIA Can stars such as Vidic, Ivanovic and Stankovic match the success enjoyed by the likes of Mateja Kezman and Savo Milosevic for FR Yugoslavia S. AFRICA Can S. Africa match the successes of Uruguay in 1930, Germany in 1974 or France in 1998 and win on home territory? SPAIN Spain’s star studded team have to be seen as one of the favourites for this competition, having recently enjoyed a run of 35 games undefeated they were eventually beaten by The United States in the Confederations Cup Semi Final. Could they succumb to similar pressure in June? NONE OF THE ABOVE With teams such as The United States, Euro 2004 winners Greece, nearby Nigeria and Mexico representing “none of the above,” along with: Algeria, Australia, Chile, Denmark, Ghana, Honduras, Japan, Korea DPR, Korea Republic, New Zealand, Paraguay, Slovakia, Slovenia, Switzerland and Uruguay .... this section is surely worth a flutter!!!!! |
